On January 11, 2001, my son Kellen Bolden suffered a severe and fatal asthma attack at Point South Elementary School in Jonesboro while waiting to board the bus to come home from school. Kellen passed away a short time later. Kellen was a very active child who enjoyed sports and participated in all of the activities of a normal child. He was diagnosed with asthma when he was four months old.
In April 2002, the "Kellen Edwin Bolden Act" passed the Georgia Legislature, ensuring that kids with asthma have ready access to their asthma medication while at school.
As part of the emphasis on asthma research, education and advocacy the American Lung Association-Southeast region hosts an annual Blow the Whistle on Asthma Walk in the Atlanta area and in many cities throughout the southeast. Families, individuals and corporate partners join together to support the walk through participation as sponsors and team members.
Please help raise awareness of this event and support asthma research, education and advocacy.
Sincerely,
Rhonda Mitchell
